We’ve owned the BackupQB.com domain name for some time now, but never had a clear idea of what to do with it. Finally decided that what the world needs is another fantasy football site.
So how will BackupQB be different? Well, for one, we’re going to focus exclusively on dynasty fantasy football–not that there aren’t already sites that do that, but we’ve found that since we got into dynasty, “regular” fantasy football…just doesn’t do much for us any more.
Another differentiation will be that we currently don’t have a lot of plans to spend hours and hours of time poring over film and researching/writing dissertations on College Dominator Rankings and things like that to show you how smart we are–plenty of people do that, and a lot of them probably do it better than we could, given that this won’t be a full time job for us.
What we will offer, though, is a jumping off point to a lot of articles, tweets, and discussions that we find interesting–we consume a whole lot of fantasy content, and often have some quick hit reactions–so we figured why not publish those?
We also figure we’ll post some additional things that might be of interest to some people–currently working on a spreadsheet of our 2020 drafts, and also have always found the season recaps posted on Reddit to be interesting reads–so we may do some of those, even going back to the beginning of some of our leagues.
Our fantasy credentials? Well, been playing fantasy football in some fashion since about 1994 or so–grabbing the Monday morning papers to tally up the scores and everything. Got into the dynasty game in 2013, and have slowly been building since then–an orphan here, a dispersal there. Played in a crazy pyramid league for a few years, added a couple IDP leagues to try out (interesting), and finally succumbed to the Superflex craze that so many swear by (can’t say I love it as much as they do).
Currently managing (or co-managing) 14 dynasty teams, I believe, with at least two more that are still up in the air as to whether they will continue or not. Won two leagues last year (disappointing finish), lost a couple championship games, and choked away a couple more in Week 15–all of the teams that I expected to finish in the playoffs did, and a couple of teams that I didn’t think had a shot actually got closer than I expected.
So am I an industry leading fantasy expert? No–but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night…
